This Beaded Beasties box frame is made with mainly recycled materials and evokes something of the olde worlde, of sailing ships, trade winds and treasures from the East.
I have used golden and ivory-coloured pearlised beads from an old bracelet to create the damselfly and the exotic tree along with gold wire, leather cord and glass nuggets. An old leaf-shaped gilded brooch sits at the base of the tree. Everything is mounted on a background paper featuring an antique-style map and sheet music. Even the music provides a fortunate connection with its title 'Les Nymphes' because nymph is the name used for damselflies in their aquatic larval stage!
The damselfly has acetate wings printed with a vein pattern. Damselflies and dragonflies can be easily distinguished because, when at rest, the damselfly's wings lay back along the body whereas a dragonfly's wings are always splayed open.
The white box frame is 27 cm (10.5 ins) square and 3.3cm deep
