The inspiration for this Beaded Beasties dragonfly came from the intricate design used on part of the wings which was taken from a recycled greetings card featuring Mary, Queen of Scots and the ornate ruff of her costume! The ruff's design resemblance to wheels and cogs suggested a steampunk theme to me, hence the other cog pieces used in this box frame.
The dragonfly is made up from predominantly recycled wooden, acrylic and metal beads in rich browns and antiqued gold which add to the steampunk idea. It is flying above a shoreline scene made with natural pebbles, cotton cord, recycled card and chenille with just a touch of sparkle. It is all mounted on a printed yellow/green watercolour-effect paper background.
The piece's title and my DArT 'signature' are written in pencil (not shown in pictures) along the bottom of the mount. This white box frame is 27cm (10.5 ins) square and 33mm deep with a hanging hook on the back.
